Still a special film. The visual style is overwhelming with the many neon lights and with Elle Fanning in the leading role it is difficult not to admire The Neon Demon (2016) thinking. Thematically, the film has quite a few similarities. Particularly that Fanning's character has something mystical about it and everyone falls for it. Of course, if it weren't for the fact that this is a version that is suitable for all ages. It doesn't have the gruesome edges of that movie.
That also makes Teen Spirit a difficult film to place. You are sucked into the feeling of Fanning's character Violet. It's all very overwhelming and difficult to comprehend. That's how the film itself comes across. By choosing this style, the story is pushed into the background and many people may consider it superficial. I understand that completely. But the film is above all an experience, a feeling. And therefore the film will not appeal to everyone.
It was special to have seen this film. A seemingly simple plot that has already been filmed differently dozens of times is portrayed by Minghella in an extremely hypnotic and infectious way.

Not a completely original film with a standard story and ending about a talented singer who takes part in a contest. But the film actually does little wrong. The pace is good and the acting is also good.
Of course, here too a somewhat strange bird as a guide, Vlad for the friends, but clearly also someone with a bag of life. The songs and the contest itself have something catchy, a lot of glamor and are therefore flashy. Well depicted, although we should not be surprised about that.
Despite her good voice, I also thought Violet's character lacked charisma, but that's personal. Teen Spirit is a film that colors within the lines and is quite entertaining, nothing more, nothing less.

Flat film about a girl who participates in a singing talent competition. Emotionlessly flat acting and supporting roles that also come across as unbelievable. As if everyone has a terrible history, while it should only appeal to your imagination. Story lines that are poorly developed. And who then have to work towards a failed emotional climax. In short, it's actually all very bad in terms of film. The film mainly relies on the music and the clip-like fast structure that will probably appeal to a lot of young people. And the film does score points in the latter area. It all looks slick.
