Adrift plot
Tami and Richard are two adventurers who meet in Tahiti. When a befriended couple offers Richard $10,000 to sail their boat to San Diego, he and Tami decide to take the job. But a tropical storm turns what should have been an adventurous, romantic trip into disaster.

The flashbacks of the past took quite the tension out of this story. On the other hand, if this story had been told chronologically, it would have been even more boring. Then cut up. The dialogues were very silly: 'I love you, I will remain faithful to you'. Unfortunately! However, there was a wonderful twist that I did not see coming! The story of the boy who floated on a boat for 227 days with a tiger (Life of Pi) was 100 times more captivating.

Quite fun.
But that's what I always do with these kinds of videos. Wandering a bit alone at sea, no rescue in sight. A mix of adventure with some thriller and action elements, also a dash of romance here. But in the end it's all about that terrible thing in the big nothing.
Kormákur tries to get some variation in it by splitting the film in two and showing alternate pieces. I understand it's useful because you can place the storm where everything goes wrong at the end of the film, but it does take some tension and pace from the film every now and then, as you get flashbacks of a pleasant start as you watch the already know the outcome.
Acting is also okay, visually it also looks decent and the crusade is quite palpable. Not a very long film either, but that is not really possible when your subject is so brief. I've seen it all before, but still found it quite entertaining.

A beautiful, romantic drama that does not bring much news, but still manages to convince because of the realistic love affair between Richard and Tami and the beautiful images of the storm and Tahiti. We've seen the twist at the end before, but otherwise it would have been a boring filming with only one survivor on board.
