Sixteen-year-old American Tatiana Mills has pen pal Anton Vincent, a notorious British-Caribbean dictator of an island nation. When the people turn against their leader, Anton seeks refuge with Tatiana, where he is allowed to stay. He becomes like a grandfather to her and develops a bond with her mother Darlene. When Anton interferes with Tatiana's school life, she slowly turns into a rebel.
