Juliet, Naked plot

Annie has been with Duncan, a film teacher and huge fan of Tucker Crowe, a rock musician who has been completely out of the picture after the release of his successful album "Juliet" 25 years ago. She takes out Annie's frustration about her unhappy relationship and Duncan's fondling with Tucker Crowe by completely sacrificing a recently-surfaced demo on Duncan's website with acoustic versions of Tucker's songs. Much to her surprise, she receives a response from Tucker Crowe herself via email.

Looks nice and the music is fine with Ryan Adams, Conor Oberst, M. Ward and even a surprisingly beautiful cover of Waterloo Sunset (The Kinks), sung by Ethan Hawke himself. He does that well. Another film that will not stay with me.

Solid.

Sympathetic and mature tragicomedy with excellent acting by (and between) Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne. Chris O'Dowd is also doing well, albeit as an absolute jammer. The film is perfectly balanced and alternates chaotic scenes (eg in the hospital) with more subdued moments in good time.
For a long time I went along with the romantic-seeming plot, and for once I could believe it too, but that is cut short just before time and so the ending leaves me, unfortunately, unsatisfied.

Juliet, Naked is a classic rom-com. After the book by Nick Hornby. With three characters who find themselves in a kind of intercontinental love triangle and who are a bit off track in their own way, but all three are also sympathetic.

The film meets all the requirements you would like to make of such a genre product. The film has a nice and clever story, is romantic, is comical and is not even (at least not across the board) predictable.

The film flows nicely that way. That lasts until the emotional turning point that always appears somewhere in a rom-com when the protagonists have to overcome emotional bumps. Likewise here. After that it all gets a little less sparkly. The last half hour of the film makes a somewhat indecisive and nervous impression. Despite the fact that there are still beautiful, heartwarming and humorous moments, the involvement in the story is less deep. The wonderfully atmospheric élan from before does not touch the film anymore.

Juliet, Naked is a movie with a heart. A film with bitter and sweet humor. A film with quirky characters. Unfortunately, the film peaks at its emotional turning point a little too early and loses some of its delightful atmosphere, wit, and laid-back cadence towards the end.
