Ouarzazate Movie plot
Since David Lean settled there in the early 1960s to film Lawrence of Arabia, the Moroccan desert city of Ouarzazate has been the setting for numerous major Hollywood blockbusters such as The Mummy and Gladiator. Spectacular films that often require hordes of extras; and the locals are all too eager to take part in a Hollywood production, even if they are unlikely to ever see the final result. Ali Essafi films them as they strut their stuff in a large, crowded grandstand in front of American producers who have determined in advance exactly what skin color, gender and age they want and walk past them as if they were at a cattle market.
