Intense at times! Unfortunately, the story now and then also had the level of a soap opera. There were moments when you could throw in the commercial on a cliffhanger and at an emotional moment, so like in the infamous soap operas.

Overall a great movie and a good story that was played well by the actors.

Because people nowadays work a lot with computers, it is possible to seriously visualize the fires and you can see very well how dangerous the work of the fighters of the fire in nature can be.

Sometimes life-threatening!

A nice 8 for this production!

Pretty strong drama. The story is intense and is well developed by Kosinski. The build is good. Each character is given time for his or her introduction through all kinds of subplots. As a result, the dramatic climax, which is quietly worked towards, has an extra impact on the viewer. Brolin plays a strong role. Visually the film looks good and the special effects are ok. Great movie. 3.5/4.0

In 2013, "GQ" (an international men's monthly magazine) ran an article about a specialized fire department, or the "Granite Mountain Hotshots", that had fought an unprecedented wildfire in Arizona earlier that year.

The story was adapted into this glorified television film of more than two hours, which struggles with an underdeveloped screenplay full of muscle language and melodrama. Still, for benevolent viewers (like me) there is quite a bit to enjoy, because the cast (including Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller) is simply excellent and a number of dialogues should be there (especially the one between Josh Brolin and Jennifer Connelly, who I still think is a beautiful woman). Furthermore, the camera work (by Oscar winner Claudio Miranda) is often impressive and you also learn something about top-level firefighting.

The story has a rather clichéd course (I didn't find it really disturbing or annoying myself) and I more or less saw the end coming (especially when Josh Brolin says to his wife Jennifer Connelly "It's only a small fire, I'll probably be home before dinner"), but I didn't think it was about so many victims (19 out of 20, with the lone survivor getting away beforehand) from the " Granite Mountain Hotshots". That was quite moving to see and also makes for a emotional ending (I couldn't keep it dry myself).

All in all, just a good true Drama / Biography film, in which the cast takes the film to a higher level and I also reward it with 3.5* instead of 3.0*.
