'Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi' (2017) definitely does what I expected it to do: it's epic; it has beautiful sets and more insane creature designs than ever; it has cool space battles; it has nostalgic references to the original mythology, etc. While 'The Force Awakens' (2015) may have played it safe a little too often to put the franchise back on the map, this part of the religious space soap makes some bold choices through shades of gray to add to that ancient struggle between good and evil.
And yet I am left with a hollow feeling, because this part is really a movie of this time in the wrong way. Needlessly complicated. The nostalgia factor and the references to Vroegâh as a goal itself. But perhaps what bothers me the most is that 'magic' in contemporary blockbusters is something that needs to be extensively explicated, sifted out or psychoanalyzed. In the original trilogy, The Force was simply The Force and Luke Skywalker learned to deal with it by a green space man. Here, that mythical primal force leaves little to the imagination, but the film takes its time to visualize this iconic phenomenon. Contemporary demystification.

This is a cool movie. I didn't really like the original Star Wars movies, and I've never been a fan, but I secretly think the newer versions are really cool. This film by Rian Johnson in particular stands out.
Beautiful, visually appealing action. The unbelievability is of course, and that's how it should be. The characters are nice, there are (finally) surprises in the plot and everyone fits a bit. The film does not bore for a minute of its long running time.
Great to share this Star Wars 8 again. Successful series, although I like the newer versions a bit better, while I certainly agree that the older parts have more iconic moments. Recommended, especially among the fans.

If TLJ wasn't a Star Wars movie, it wouldn't be doable. A meager five-. The movie was made dead by certain political correctness and SJWs. Because of diversity and gender, there are too many unnecessary characters in it. Any depth around interesting characters is completely lacking. Zero information on Snoke. Rey is only vaguely referred to. holdo? Who is that? She looks like she was plucked from a gala to quickly lead a rebel group. A completely unbelievable character. There are still a few. A mighty spaceship, actually two, will be destroyed in no time. And both in incredible ways that don't fit into the SW universe or go against any tactical military stance. The character Huxe of the First Order should be a menacing figure...it's a clown. Luke Skywalker, THE ark character that is very much centered on Star Wars, is the weakest imaginable extract of the Luke Skywalker from previous films in Rian Johnson's story. He's not quite a bum drinking yet. This SW movie is an insult to SW fans. "The Force is female"? Sorry...the dark side of The Force then.
Writers are not good directors. And directors are certainly not good writers. Disney is to blame for the demise of this franchise...and ultimately George Lucas who sold his soul to the devil. Disney...a mouse that lays a human trap.
Episode IX...may The Force be with us...but I got a bad feeling about this...
