This documentary is about self-proclaimed “street queen” Marsha P. Johnson, a legendary figure in New York's gay ghetto, who co-founded a trans-activist group with transsexual icon Sylvia in the heart of New York's Greenwich Village; the STAR (Transvestites Action Revolutionaries). Under mysterious circumstances, Marsha's body was found in the Hudson River in 1992. At the time, the NYPD labeled her death a suicide, a claim that has always been firmly rejected by Marsha's comrades. “The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson” celebrates Marsha P. Johnson's enduring political legacy as she finally solves the mystery of her unexplained death.
