Boris Godunov plot
Film adaptation of Modest Mussorgsky's opera of the same name, which in turn is based on the play by Aleksandr Pushkin. The monk Pimeen, has found out that the younger brother of the deceased tsar, Dimitri, must have been eliminated by the new tsar, Boris, and tells this to the young monk Grigori. Grigori decides to impersonate the murdered Dimitri. In an inn on the Lithuanian border, Grigori learns that he is wanted by the Tsar's servants and he flees across the border. Boris now wonders if Dmitri is really dead and gives in to fear and remorse.
