What an abominably bad movie.

I don't know what I've been watching. Not only is it an incredibly boring movie to watch, it also makes no sense logically. There are characters, scenes and subplots in it that are completely irrelevant to the development of the characters. The writers have never heard of something like a logical character arc, because characters either have very variable characteristics (and therefore there is no clear line in their development) or are completely redundant (and therefore you might as well leave them out).

The pacing was also off. There is no build up, weird transitions and illogical jump cuts. I think the writers need a lesson in Storytelling 101 because this was a hopeless exercise.

Why William H. Macy (who I really liked as an actor in Paul Thomas Anderson's films) directed this kind of junk is a mystery to me.

The trifle of trifles from 2017, let's say. An insignificant, lame comedy that makes it impossible to laugh uncontrollably, an occasional small smile at so much silliness is the most achievable. I think Macy's intention was to make a female version of something like Dumb & Dumber, but it never becomes hilariously fun. Also because the two leading actresses have little comedic talent, I even suspect that Upton has no talent at all, I bet it will quickly be forgotten. The experienced and funny comedienne Shannon does have a strong scene in a supporting role when she discusses her relationship, and for that rare laugh I give half a star more than this not-quite-irritating nonsense actually deserves.

It’s hard to believe that this inane, overacted romantic comedy was directed by an actor who was a master of understatement. In this tarnished William H. Macy escutcheon, friends Meg [Kate Upton] and Kate [Alexandra Daddario] decide to deal with their recent misfortunes by taking a vacation to For Lauderdale. On the plane, they meet a clearly uninterested Ryan [Matt Barr], but that doesn’t stop Meg and Kate from fighting each other no end in a futile battle for Ryan’s affections when they’re stranded in a St. Louis hotel due to an approaching hurricane. An embarrassing display, especially for Upton and Daddario.
