Look at a confused family ("a ruin," says Steve) and a negative look at family values (despite the bland, cliche ending).

The humor is more plump than nice and some characters get a caricatural dimension.

Superficial and certainly not a Flemish Flag Bearer.

Ensemble film according to the Hollywood formula about a family where each member has to deal with few original problems. Bob [Bob de Moor] and Greta [Gilda de Bal] announce in the run-up to their 40th wedding anniversary that they want to divorce, the hectic director Steve [Steve Geerts] is told that he will not father children and points behind the back of his wife Billie [Nathalie Meskens] his brother Rik [Wouter Hendrickx] as a sperm donor. Geerts is almost as disturbing as the formulaic screenplay, but the film is saved by a few striking moments, especially thanks to De Bal as the elderly woman who has to face unresolved grief. A number of well-known Flemish people have a cameo as themselves.

Apparently a remake of the Dutch Everything is family. I wasn't so aware of it. As a Belgian, I rather prefer this film in terms of recognisability. The star cast is large and is familiar with the general public. Not a bad film, but quite busy at times, not least because of some of the characters themselves. Steve Geerts (Steve) plays a rather annoying hyperactive role. They looked like sketches from a hilarious B-program that no cat is watching. Well, luckily for the others things were a bit more serene.

Lots of characters, each with their own characters and activities. There is only 1 thing that binds them: family and/or friendship. In that respect, this film is in the same line as other films such as Zot van A., Team spirit or What men want. Flemish romcoms. The character Steve expressed it well by explaining what kind of bullshit genre that actually is and is actually miles away from reality.

It's a mess when you watch the movie. A soap opera is nothing compared to it. Clattering does it like never before, but those very sweet endings are often too much. All in all, entertaining and fun to watch. Great to be able to pour all those stories and characters into one whole. Very, but very narrowly enough.

Oh yes, what Josje Huisman and Gert Verhulst are doing here in the cast on MM is a complete mystery to me ...
