Sendero (2015)

Well...

The film already dragged on for way too long for me... at least, before anything truly interesting happened. The first hour is almost impossible to get through. Heavily amateurish, bad acting, and a continuous, blood-irritating soundtrack that is supposed to give the film a raw edge.

The so-called torture scenes, in particular, come across as so fake and forced that I was barely impressed. The family is... forced too... everything is forced. When the action part surfaces, there is some relief... and we are presented with a few reasonably clumsy kills. But that is about it. The only extra who still managed to win me over was the father of the family...

Terrible. The film fails to become suspenseful or tense at any point. Typical is that Irreversible-esque music, which creates a menacing atmosphere in that film but seems completely out of place in this Chilean movie. Visually, more could have been done too, although that shot under the big tree is very beautiful. The first 20 minutes are completely irrelevant, followed by a bunch of uninteresting scenes and some nice gore at the end, but by then the film is already lost. 1.0*.

Very strange film; the gore is well put together, and as you grow into the film, the brutal kills follow each other in rapid succession. I couldn't connect with the story at all, and it never became exciting. The residents, with the exception of the creepy woman, came across as very amateurish.
