"Since the closer to the bottom of the ocean, the darker it gets..."

The town where the sisters Ayia and Mirra live with their mother is in the grip of an unknown infectious disease. After the death of mother, it is Mirra who can hardly bear the loss. She has nightmares and gets sick herself. When Ayia is forced to abandon Mirra to keep the sick in isolation, she turns to the young priest Herman for support, who has promised their mother to watch over the girls. Herman helps Ayia, through a shamanic ritual, to penetrate into Mirra's subconscious and thus find the cause of her illness.

Very nice.

Khvaleev is actually a DJ/producer and after directing a number of his music videos himself, he took on this project. The result may certainly be impressive, but that is often the case when the director has a music background.

Visually very nice. Sometimes it looks a bit too dull, but generally great shots, beautiful use of color and great creature designs. The true horror fan will probably be left wanting, because it is not really scary, exciting or gross, but that is not what this film is aiming for. Rather, it is the mysterious and occult that drives III.

Soundtrack is also decent. Nice and crunchy and very present. Goes perfectly with the visuals and creates buckets of atmosphere. The story is mainly a framework and the cast is small, inexperienced, but otherwise not bad.

This is a very nice discovery, every now and then they pop up on Netflix, which means that the service is starting to prove itself more as far as I'm concerned.

4.5* and a extensive review

Open your mind

An audio/visual feast. Where the film falls short in terms of story and acting, Khvaleev makes up for it in terms of visuals, sound and music. There isn't much color in III. An occasional dash of color in an otherwise gloomy color palette. But the colors that are available are used in a beautiful way. The film is also full of beautiful shots and the music and sound design are also good. Where the film mainly scores points is in terms of atmosphere. And III has more than enough of that.

It is not a horror film that wants to impress you with lots of creatures, blood and gusts, although that is certainly present in III. It's more of a film that wants to make you feel a sense of discomfort. And Khvaleev and his team certainly succeeded.

Visually sometimes simply overwhelming and breathtaking. The soundtrack is magical to intriguing. Floating electro music to straight Nine Inch Nails inspired sound fragments. Unfortunately, I found the story very vague and slow.

Dark Generational Trauma...

Intriguing surroundings, we appear to be in a gloriously dark forest. Such a Foreboding atmosphere right from the start and the promise of a Dark Brooding Presence.

I'm really enjoying the setting of this film, and the architecture is unbelievably gorgeous . Everything feels so palpable, and it feels like you can taste the air and smell the soil.

The Dark Gothic aesthetic of the film penetrates deep into the subconscious, as if pulling you into the story of the suffering and pain and anguish of the characters.

The visuals are deep and emoting of the Hell the people must have felt during this episode enveloping their community, their friends, and their families.

There is so much pain and suffering in this film, even beyond the current situation and into the past of the history of the people. The psychological torment that they endured feels like it's scarred the land, leaving a solemn wound that never heals.

I NEED to own this film, as I own VVitch and a few others that capture a deep welling of emotion in me as I watch.
