Most Jim Carrey films are not for me because I think he portrays his characters too exaggerated and I also find the stories too bland. Still, I laughed at this movie. Especially the scenes in which he plays with his sons and the one with that little boy really stand out for me. Every now and then it gets a bit over the top especially all those crazy faces he pulls and ditto with the story. But in general I had a good laugh about a few things.

faint.

It's definitely a typical Farrelly's movie. The two brothers who have always put down rather bland comedies. It is also logical that very few made a real impression on a critical level. It was only later in 2019 that an Oscar was suddenly won, everything before that was mainly at the level of this film.

Thanks to the separate narration, I found the first 10 minutes quite funny. Very unconventional and exaggerated, but it catches on. Also very special to see Carrey in this role. At first you think he doesn't fit in at all. Only later in the film do you see that it really was a role that was perfect for him and he knows how to fill it in well.

The problem with this film is that the core is well thought out, but in the end it mainly concerns a Carrey who pulls jaws for 2 hours that are never particularly funny. He blends in well with his character, it just never got to me. He is, however, a lot more interesting than Zellweger, who I found mostly boring. Also a lot of supporting roles with an eccentric character, but again not the kind that makes me happy.

It would have been nice if this film had been directed a bit more sunnier and smoother. Now it is mainly a clumsy and bombastic comedy that can score on the content. That's where it ends, because once the directors try to write something around it, it immediately fails. As a result, the film is eventually stretched to a length of almost 2 hours, and for what? It's a film that starts nice and has some funny moments in between, but it doesn't exactly rise above the level. Rather, it's way below it.
