The Texas Chain Saw Massacre plot

"Who will survive and what will be left of them?"

August 18, 1973. When Sally Hardesty learns that her grandfather's grave has been desecrated by vandals, she drums up her boyfriend Jerry, her disabled brother Franklin, and her friends Pam and Kirk to investigate exactly what happened. Along the way, they take a strange hitchhiker, who, much to their dismay, cuts himself in his hand. The teens dump the man by the side of the road and quickly drive on. Unfortunately, a while later they have car trouble and they are forced to ring the bell at a gruesome looking house.

A disc that you should be able to buy in an old, worn, rusted and dented tin. Preferably with a handful of Texan sand in it. My score goes above all to the dusty, rural, rotten and twisted atmosphere that it exudes in every fiber. Broke, but also pretty lean in that respect.

The stench of sticky sweat and rotting or not barbecue meat drips from the screen, so to speak. I wouldn't describe it as scary either, but it is, it is mainly a horror that cuts you through the marrow and occasionally can almost literally pull the blood from under your fingernails.

Because of the freaky sounds of the soundtrack, for example, but also because of the crackling hum of the roaring chain store when Leatherface starts the chase. If the screaming makes you mad, that's exactly the point. The higher the volume, the better Hooper's backword horror grounds.

In that respect, the silence just before the first murder is striking. Only then does the eerie music begin to stir again. Shots from a distance and diagonally under the beef cattle feed the coming misery visually. At first glance unpolished, but secretly it is all quite refined.

Dry as a bone, with that meat hook, that comes across a lot coarser than when you use all kinds of bells and whistles. The screenplay will have been little more than a brief guideline, but it does lead to total madness with frenzied, crazy scenes. With horror ballet as a closing.

“That's the last goddamn hitchhiker I ever pick up.”

Fantastic horror classic. Judging by the title alone, you'd think The Texas Chain Saw Massacre would just be a superficial, exaggerated, gory and long-drawn-out killing spree. Nothing is less true. An atmospheric and ominous beginning, in which we get to know the characters, is already a hopeful harbinger.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre shows the importance of using suggestion rather than explicit violence. Any horror fan knows that suggesting a murder is usually more effective than actually showing the murder. Marilyn Burns gives the term scream queen a new dimension, and the other actors are also perfectly cast. And I can't praise the cinematography and camera work enough. Brilliant.

The Horror Flick with the best atmosphere in my opinion!

For me, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the most classic Horror movie out there! The filthy dark atmosphere that is complimented by the almost snuff-like camera work is unprecedented!

The best part of the film is the end when the family gets together and extremely bizarre things happen all the time. It's basically only a small part of the movie but it's enough to show how the roles are split and how things go within the Sawyer residence but it's also short enough to keep the mysterious vibe.

Perfect ending complimented by Bubba/Leatherface's chainsaw dance!

☆5.0
