Very messy adaptation with a rushed ending.
The Dutch version was simpler in structure, but it had more suspense and better character development.

Italian adaptation of Herman Koch's “The Dinner”. I find this adapted version slightly better than the Dutch version, because the various characters are fleshed out more, and also due to the strong acting, especially by Giovanna Mezzogiorno (always good!) and Luigi Lo Cascio. A fine film.

A film based on the book by Herman Koch called *Het Diner*. I have seen that film before, too. Yet, I couldn't remember the story. It isn't exactly a simple story. Several interesting storylines intertwine, and the dynamics and relationships between all the characters are beautifully developed. It is all filmed in a very captivating way, and the acting is fine. The ending might be unsatisfying, but it fits. And now I am going to see what I wrote about "Het Diner." Maybe I should watch that film again right now.
