Jesse Owens.

One of the greatest heroes in Olympic history, perhaps the greatest. And history takes place in a particularly interesting setting at the 1936 Olympics. It's a shame that so little is handled historically correctly. While some of the harrowing events have made it into the film, the utter lack of gratitude from the proud American nation is easily overlooked, and Owens' recognition in Germany is also briefly forgotten. It's a mystery to me why, it would have made the film a lot stronger if 'just' had followed history as it can be read on wikipedia.

With that indignation written off from me, it is otherwise a pleasant if somewhat sweet film. Pretty strong acting too, not only because of the lead role that really impresses, but also a lot of beautiful supporting roles from Irons, among others. You could have it worse. Where our national pride Carice can play a nice Riefenstahl. Not very historically accurate I'm afraid.

Nice film, very entertaining, about the athlete Jesse Owens and his participation in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Solid, but a bit corny put together, as you often see within the genre of the historical biopic. Fortunately, the excellent cast turns it into something beautiful, with Jason Sudeikis playing a starring role as Owens' coach. The historical context is also nicely done, although not always very credible.

Brave biopic, which does not really want to be above average due to mediocre casting and acting.

What struck me most is how the racial hatred of Nazi Germany is often compared to the racism in the US at the time. I think that was too daring 10-20 years ago.

Incidentally, I find Jason Sudeikis - I haven't seen much of the man yet - very much like the young Dennis Quaid.
