At times seriously wrong.

Pumpkinhead has a few minor issues. Not least the monster's incredibly stupid name, which actually always elicits a few chuckles. The film's inability to create a proper legend doesn't exactly do it any favors either.

The witch summons Pumpkinhead, but later she actually helps stop him. Pumpkinhead himself is also a rather dull little monster. The lighting makes him look passable, but he doesn't do much, while the results of his actions are always viewed with immense horror.

There are some good scenes, but just as many are completely flawed. Plus, the monster takes a serious hit at the end. Seriously, is he really getting emotional?.

Too bad, because it has everything it takes to make a fun horror saga. It just could have been a little less silly.

1.5*

A weak, sloppily constructed horror film with generally poor acting and a lack of noteworthy kills. Only Pumpkinhead himself thankfully still looks delightfully practical, and the decision to let things get wild when this little monster makes his entrance is effective. Director Jeff Burr essentially seems to have his heart in the right place, but he shortchanges himself by rushing both the atmosphere and the tension. It never really gets going, and the finale is a bit ridiculous, though thankfully it doesn't drag on too long. Several clips from this film were used for a game two years later.
