Good movie. Which shows both sides of 'being different' from the general standard. I think there is something to be said for both sides. I can agree with 'disagreeing' with the standard way of doing things in the world, but I also agree with the fact that it is just the way it is and that you have to go along with this to some extent go, otherwise you won't make it in this society. Interesting to think about. The ending is a bit easy and fast. I feel like it should have ended better. Anyway. Definitely worth watching this film and developing yourself what is happening.

This film can be seen as a lesson in parenting. The children, fanatically raised by their erudite father, a fantastic Viggo Mortensen, will get there. Or not? Father can afford a lot of pedagogical freedom with those treasures of children, halfway through the story the whole family hangs on a rope on a steep mountain slope. Scary, irresponsible, but it is precisely these kinds of scenes that encourage introspection. What is a good upbringing? Anyway. Their mother's death sets in motion a little miss sunshine road trip that puts a strain on harmonious family life.
Although sometimes on the edge in terms of sentiment, it usually just doesn't fly out of the curve. For example, a scene in which the whole family sings 'sweet child o' mine' (yes, guns n roses) instead of larmoyant becomes memorable. A big credit to the actors. This film has the potential to linger, perhaps revisit with children or loved ones. Hipsters beware... captain fantastic can also be seen as proof that a beard of a few months makes you older.

Impressive movie. Ethical roller coaster. Raising the viewer slowly. And then thundering in all directions.
Imposed freedom? Ideals at any price? The film pinches, chafes. And continues to surprise. Until the end. Small but big movie. Go see that. 4 stars.
