Guang Yin De Gu Shi: Tai Wan Xin Dian Ying plot
It has been over thirty years since the Taiwan New Cinema movement emerged and flourished. This had a lot to do with a changing political climate in Taiwan. Although Taiwan remains at odds with China - which regards the island as a renegade province - the country began a process of democratization in 1979, before lifting martial law in 1987. In the early 1980s, a new group of politically conscious directors emerged that rebelled against the tradition of melodrama in the Taiwanese film industry. With their innovative style, with long takes and frontal framing, directors such as Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang and others caught the eye at foreign film festivals.
