the flashbacks make this film really childish...a real shame...it could have been different because the story was quite fun, moving and with these 2 top actors, it could have been a top movie too!

This was great fun. Great roles by Caine and Duvall and above all a very entertaining and adventurous story. In terms of logic in time, I don't think it's right, but it's all done so nicely that nothing really disturbs in this film. The cornfield, the lion, the dogs... all very funny. I think I watched the whole movie with a big smile. Duvall's quote in that bar/shop is fantastic.

You'll only have a bunch of uncles like that.

The film sometimes resembles an acting contest between Robert Duvall and Michael Caine. I wouldn't have bet on Duvall, but I think he wins here. Haley Joel Osment stands up to all that violence, if only just on. An achievement in itself, you'll just have to do it. And Kyra Sedgwick then, aiaiai, where has that cute babe from Singles gone.

She doesn't like the story either, as a scary witch in this somewhat dreamy fairy tale with a real lion. That lion has it again, second-hand, but also very cute, and very much a real lion.

Very nice.
