A little too easy.

It is clear that Howden was inspired by Jackson. The attack in the parental home seems to be one big reference to Braindead. What is also clear is that Howden is not half the director that Jackson once was. That is a shame.

The whole metal thing doesn't really interest me, I also wonder if these kinds of scenes are still relevant. It seems to me more like some kind of stale 80s thing (not the music itself, but the decoration around it). The humor was often a bit too easy, the execution a bit weak.

It is also quite tame, until the bloodshed finally begins. The film becomes a lot more fun, but it is not really over the top and the supreme demon is also a bit too simple. I just had the feeling that this film cut corners a bit too often. Not bad for once, but I did not find it really memorable.

2.5*

Metalheads Brodie [Milo Cawthorne] and Zakk [James Blake] team up with RPG freaks Dion [Sam Berkley] and Giles [Daniel Cresswell] to form the metal band 'Deathgasm'. A chance encounter. After an equally chance and bizarre meeting with metal legend Rikki Daggers [Stephen Ure], Brodie comes into possession of sheet music that becomes the basis for the ultimate headbanger. But playing the music turns out to have an unpleasant effect in this homage to fellow countryman Peter Jackson's splatter classic Braindead. Partly due to the limited budget, Howden fails to match the madness and visual inventiveness of his inspiration, but it's an admirable attempt. And there are more than enough highly entertaining moments.

A refined hobby project for a niche market.

In itself quite funny. Although the banality of the humor does get annoying after a while.

But for a budget of 200,000 (most of which apparently went to silos full of fake blood) Howden has managed to make something nice. The fact that the action and gore scenes are connected by obvious low-budget solutions also gives this C-movie some charm.

But it never becomes gripping or interesting.
