Simply ridiculous remake of a classic!

Received it as a gift somewhere last year and only now watched the film because I actually didn't really want to see this film. Unfortunately, my negative premonitions about this horror work confirm, because it is all even worse than I had thought. There is little to nothing to do in this clumsy remake with also very mediocre acting. 2/10

Just fun.

Poltergeist is not far from the original for me actually, which I also liked thanks to the big noise that played in it. Of course the two films cannot be compared completely, but I think this remake stays pretty close to the source material. It's just all gotten a bit more expensive, grander and smoother.

The problem with these kinds of movies, however, is that it just doesn't want to be that exciting. It has enough elements to build up the tension well, but it doesn't succeed very well. That clown over there on the poster must be nightmare food, but it's hardly used properly. I also miss the really scary ghost apparitions.

The acting is nice, Rockwell is actually too good for this kind of nonsensical horror projects. He looks great, but you can clearly see that this is just not the ideal role for him. The children are doing well, I thought Catlett's appearance was quite appropriate for the film. No one is really brilliant or way above average, but it does meet the standard.

So what makes this movie good? The directing itself, which sometimes goes wild. This film happily uses its budget and director Kenan can handle it nicely. The camera work is strong, the scenes look very nice cinematically and the colors can shine. Add to that good use of effects and you have an enjoyable and full-length horror film.

If this had been a bit scarier, this would of course have been more wonderful entertainment. It's all gotten a little smoother and safer, and doesn't do much that differs from the horror recipe, but I had a great time. A little more humor, a little more scary horror, and Kenan can just deliver a topper. I understand the bad sounds, I just didn't think it was that bad.

Very unnecessary remake....

In general, the same happens as in the original Poltergeist (1 of my all time favorite movies) but this part takes place in this time so there is a bit of creepy shit that you can do with a smartphone for example, but in the remake everything else is a lot less ... especially the acting and the build-up of tension is quite jerky. The important events that are different in the remake are superfluous, predictable and rather simple....where the original part makes very good use of almost Disney-like animation for the effects (target more on the ghosts/lights themselves) in the remake they used everyday 10's CGI jumpscare effects that really piss me off. (The Conjuring 1 & 2 were a very big surprise for me I must say).

The son Griffin (Kyle Catlett) is the only one who plays convincingly and the one who almost completely carries the film.

What is great about the remake is that you get a good idea of "the other side"!

☆2.0
