One of the few times I like a sequel better than the original. The a cappella covering of all kinds of songs is without a doubt very enjoyable. To make it even more fun they have taken the trouble to string together the numerous musical moments with something like a story. But that story doesn't matter, albeit that John Michael Higgins's brusque one-liners get on well. Small, but creditable directorial debut by Elizabeth Banks.

John: "This could be the most significant conflict between America and Germany in history!"

Gail: "...Crack a book, John"

Better than expected. The songs are still the strongest part of the film and the acting is very variable. The jokes (especially from Rebel Wilson/Fat Amy) are not all successful, but luckily we still have John and Gail. Wonderful commentary. Anna Kendrick is a bit flat but acts well and Hailee Steinfeld is a nice addition to the Barden Bellas but her humor is very wrong and unfunny. Fortunately we still have Das Sound Machine and actress Birgitte Hjort Sorensen who both provide a number of musical and humorous highlights. The ending is very feel good but you know that in advance. You sit on the couch with a smile after the movie and that is worth a compliment. That's also because of the extra scene with Adam DeVine. Brilliant.

So very, very, very occasionally it happens that part two is actually better than the original. At least I thought so, but I didn't care about the romance from part 1 (too bland) or about the music itself (too sweet). Why? - mainly because of the somewhat absurd situations, and the politically incorrect reflections of Fat Amy and the commentators. Still way too good, but there is some improvement, and the time in between that they have their scenes is just bordering on good enough with singing and dancing. At least that's how it works for me.

Just like in the previous part, Anna Kendrick steals the show, despite fierce competition from Steinfeld. If the makers had come up with the idea to give them a character, it might have become something of a film.
