Nice, modest and sometimes a bit long-winded drama. Certainly not the standard student/student movie. Unfortunately, the film sometimes lacks direction and not everything becomes clear. Two beautiful renditions of the two main turd players.

pooh.

A raw film in between. With a few really standout moments, brilliantly acted by both Hanna Herzsprung and Monica Bleibtreu. Visually as beautiful as it is, all in an interesting gray atmosphere, with beautiful locations and things - the truck and the piano.

What I don't like is that the film wants to deal with too many traumas at the same time, and seems to want to do so in a somewhat pushy way. There are also a lot of time jumps needed to fit everything in, which makes it confusing as well as annoying. I also don't quite like the ending scene, why exactly that hip stuff is needed to give it a kind of standard ending. That might be appropriate for a youth film, but here it feels strange.

And there are still some cosmetic flaws. Monica Bleibtreu at the piano, for example. It's not really clear to me why Jenny goes along so easily in the story. But they're flaws - they hardly detract from the power of the film.

Four Minutes has a powerful story, about a girl with behavioral problems who is in prison and has a natural talent for the piano, and also a lot of strong scenes that made me tend to give 4* for this. But unfortunately the film is far from finished, so that 4* is not forthcoming. There are subplots (about the piano teacher for example) that feel out of place here and in any case do not achieve the aim of the direction. Also the cliché "dumb guard" has little to do in a serious drama film. With such additions, the director tries to make the film juicier, while that is completely unnecessary. The story around the girl is powerful enough to carry the whole movie and these things only bring the movie down. Too bad, because that means it stays at a small 3.5 *. Had more potential. I left it too long, I expected a heavy drama but it is quite doable.
