Xie plot
Chun Yu Yeung is a sadistic bastard. He is bitter because he married into the wealthy Chan family, right during a period of severe financial decline. Chun Yu treats his now poor wife, Sau Ying, like a dog. He beats her, berates her and spends her last family money on booze, gambling and prostitutes. As Sau Ying sinks into depression, she unsuspectingly finds an ally.

Not much to add! The beautiful sets in particular steal the show here. Colorful, misty settings surround the gigantic mansion that sets the stage for a story full of witchcraft and sweet revenge. The whole thing is extremely well cared for and chock full of atmospheric, entertaining scares. With a daring, sensual ending. Explicit nudity and a hairy flame... that's not very common in Shaw's films, is it? Or have I seen too little? 
88 Films certainly delivers what they promise: a strange mystery of manslaughter and macabre happenings.

Now that's a nice surprise. Xie is largely a nice and atmospheric ghost and revenge story, with several twists that I will remain silent about for spoiler reasons. However, it is not a very slow ghost film, but one in which quite a lot happens and it has a brisk pace. With, in addition to the twists, a sensual and almost erotic ending, and also all kinds of strange and unusual scenes that you often see in East Asian horrors (think Hausu or Mystics on Bali), such as a naked ghost that is captioned and [spoiler ]dances extensively and is spanked while being exorcised, or hands run loose. But what also gives the film major bonus points is the atmosphere. A beautiful, large oriental villa around which almost the entire film takes place, beautiful images and a film that (except for the mediocre special effects) looks visually good.
