"You don't choose your own family"

Elias and Gabriel are two very different brothers. Gabriel is a worn out university professor and Elias is only interested in women and trivial knowledge. Despite their differences, Elias and Gabriel decide to look for their biological father. They discover that he lives on the island of Ork. There they will meet their real family for the first time.

The Hazenlip family

Dark and at the same time absurd comedy about two brothers who are looking for their father on an island, only to discover that they have three more half-brothers. The humor was not my thing at first, and then it quickly disappoints because most of the film builds on bizarre whattafuck moments. The point of the whole story is at the very end and was the funniest part of this awful Danish nonsense; other than that I can't really praise it: it was quite an achievement to watch him out. And I certainly don't think Mikkelsen belongs in comedies. He is an excellent drama actor, but making the audience laugh is clearly not for him.

I'm here because there are way too many fucking Americans on IMDB. They will all give 1 star if they don't like a movie and 10 if the message of the movie fits their style. Too bad I see it happening here too. If you are going to give a 0.5, 1 or 2 star for this film then you are not judging the film but your own experience. It doesn't matter at all whether you find this offensive, or not funny or find it too "weird".

The point is, does this film succeed in its format?? For example, I don't think Titanic is my kind of film at all, etc. but if I have to give stars for it, I'm not going to drill that film into the ground with 1 star. Why? Since it is a romantic comedy, the actors play very well what they have to play. And so it's a good movie. Even though I don't like romantic swoon movies and that music etc. etc.

So please treat this movie as well. Then you end up with at least 3.5 stars because this film just does a lot of good. I think it is his worst film by Anders Thomas Jensen standards. But this guy just can't make bad movies and this one is brilliant again. Distasteful, inappropriate, dirty and often not funny at all. Because the characters are not likeable, they are stupid and childish. And that fits so well with this movie! Mikkelsen in particular stands out, but everyone here plays their part with verve.

Great, every now and then a movie where nothing is / goes normal. What an absurdity. In a beastly way, Jensen presents us with some existential issues and we are flung from one strange, often at the same time black-comedy, scene to the next. Mikkelsen is great again, as is the rest of the cast. Strange affair, but beautifully made and very successful.
