Huang Jin Shi Dai plot
Manchuria, early 1930s. 20-year-old Xiao Hong flees to escape her abusive father and an arranged marriage. She begins to build a new life in Harbin. Shortly after, she is abandoned by her lover and is left with an unwanted pregnancy and a large hotel bill. When the owner of the hotel threatens to sell her to a brothel, she decides in a desperate attempt to write a letter to the newspaper.
