“I think he's afraid of what's gonna happen if he loses.”

“No, he's afraid of what's gonna happen if he wins.”

Pawn Sacrifice is a fine film about chess great Bobby Fischer. The film shows how Fischer grows up and how he develops a passion for chess. But Pawn Sacrifice's greatest strength is the battle between Fischer and Boris Spassky (Schreiber). The last part in Iceland is strong, and director Edward Wick even manages to make chess exciting. The film is very long, and we get to see Fischer's entire life. A little more focus on chess and the battle with Spassky would have done Pawn Sacrifice well.

As a chess lover it is nice to see a film by legend Bobby Fisher, but the film is also extremely suitable for non-chess players. Bobby Fisher is a fascinating figure, colorful, brilliant, but also struggling with behavioral disorders. His distinct and controversial aggressive and even paranoid style raises many questions regarding his state of mind, but the fact is that as a grandmaster he has left his mark on the chess world and far beyond.

Tobey Maguire gives a beautiful rendition of the character Fisher. The Cold War is also well incorporated into the story. If it wasn't through space travel or the arms race, then through sport to outdo the communists. Lieb Schreiber as Spassky is also well cast, making the film very solid and even valuable. Fisher's statements were numerous and extremely sharp. His popularity is directly proportional, but of course mainly because of his genius.

Also exciting and endearing film, well performed by director and actors. Highly recommended for those who want to experience the atmosphere of the Cold War.

After seeing the series 'the Queens Gambit' I looked up this film and set it up. It's a relatively unknown film, but the life of Bobby Fischer is definitely worth filming.

Unbelievable how such a chess genius with such an insufferable character has lived his life.

Tobey Maguire was able to enjoy himself in his role, that is as clear as possible. As a chess lover I found the chess games, of course the famous game in which Spassky, excellent role by Liev Schreiber, applauded afterwards, the most interesting.

It's actually bizarre that just about all of Fischer's absurd wishes were fulfilled.

It is a pity that he has completely derailed and has little or nothing more of significance for the chess world, because there was no doubt that he was a genius.

Great movie.
