Mediocre.

I always like disaster movies, so this movie had a big advantage. The fact that I found it so mediocre afterwards actually says a lot more. I always forgive unrealistic stuff in these films, mainly because it doesn't really stand out to me, but this one caught my eye completely.

Jones portrays a rather standard character without any humor that at one point had so much to say that makes you wonder where exactly the real president is. Heche's acting is mediocre and gets a much too big role. Always nice to see that Caroll Lynch by the way, and Cheadle is fine too.

Effects are indeed quite mediocre, whereby the large budget seems to have been thrown away, luckily there is actually almost plenty of spectacle that saves the film somewhat. The final phase did not feel exciting enough, while the bombastic explosions around half of the film were cool .

A bit of a Bay like film with mediocre effects, downright annoying characters and not too brilliant acting. The least disaster movie I've seen so far, and that's a shame really.

Not good.

It is not entirely clear to me what such a dry ass Tommy Lee Jones is doing here in the lead role. He certainly does not fit in this noisy and busy business. Disaster movies may be noisy and busy to be clear, but it would be weird if they were calm. But it could be just a little more than that. More excitement, more entertainment, more adrenaline, for example through some more original action.

Volcano, however, comes from a time when these kinds of movies were hot. We are now almost 25 years later and it is still quite dated. There has been no shortage of disaster films in the meantime, so better films have been made.

Tommy Lee Jones, Don Cheadle and Anne Heche - taking this film up against the slightly earlier Dante's Peak. Mary, she has Linda Hamilton and Pierce Brosnan.

Both movies have an absolutely incredible story, so we won't talk about that anymore. The effects in this film are a lot less, the lava just doesn't do as well as a pyroclastic flow. And the tension must also come from a lot of screaming - and Heche's voice wasn't really her strongest point, I think. The music is also annoyingly dramatic, even when nothing really happens.

And to make matters worse, that cliche thing with my daughter. Meh.

Not the best film to commemorate Heche. Then something like Six Days Seven Nights is a lot more fun.
