When British teenager Katie Gleason disappears during a school exchange in the South of France, her mother Sarah rushes to Saint-Michel in search of answers. Faced with evasive police and hostility from Katie's powerful host family, the Morvans, Sarah launches her own investigation alongside local detective Lieutenant Virginie Taylor. She uncovers hidden secrets, abuse, corruption, and human trafficking within the close-knit town. As bodies turn up and suspicions reach influential figures—including Virginie's father—alliances crumble. Betrayed and distraught, Sarah discovers that Katie might still be alive. Time is running out for both of them and for justice.
