Chance season 1

A TV series that bears the name of its main character as its title; a doctor played by British actor Hugh Laurie. Does the comparison with House arise?

Well no. For the rest, the two series are not comparable at all. The character that Laurie credibly portrays, by the way) is also completely different from the narcissistic, anarchistic, pill-swallowing genius Gregory House.

Chance is an American series about the neuropsychologist Eldon Chance, who, partly through force majeure, but mainly through his own fault, is swept along in a maelstrom of misery. Along the way, after meeting the mysterious Jaclyn, who exerts an enormous attraction on him, he undergoes a metamorphosis. Running into D. certainly doesn't hurt that change.

As a thriller series, Chance falls a bit short in my opinion; it sometimes lacks the much-needed tension, although the attention is well held. Also nice is the supporting role of Clarke Peters, who is certainly known to adepts of the incomparable The Wire as the subtle detective Lester Freamon. Here he plays a dandy-like owner of a furniture store, but he turns out to be more.

A second season has started this month; there is also some material. Especially the character D. I would like to see more developed. But it's mostly about Eldon Chance, of course. I've noticed that Laurie is one of the executive producers himself, so he's probably going to be excited about it.

Not a top series, but I certainly won't pass up a second season.
