Of all the Star Trek series and movies I only really like TNG series, Jean-Luc Picard is really an icon. That alone was the reason to go see Picard. Now halfway through the series I really like it. The story unfolds smoothly, and I enjoy the calm atmosphere more than the sparse action or even commotion. Good choice actually, there is more than enough noise from other series and film series, you can never compete with that. But the most important reason for doing my first post on TV Meter is really just to say that I really think the score on this series is phenomenal, especially the opening tune. That said, on to part 6.

Although I'm not a "Trekkie" and therefore don't do cosplay, I do consider myself an enthusiast, I had bought TNG on video and Voyager on DVD, so you know. Amazon Prime account for the cold winter months, watching Picard..

I'm now on episode 5 of the first season, and I'm not entirely positive yet.

The acting is fine, Stewart is always a party, and the other actors can at least keep up. But the characters are not developed and dialogues are often downright wooden, they don't flow well, don't fit well together, sentences often don't fit the character.

The same goes for the storyline throughout the series, in old series it was usually just a stepping stone to be able to do a completed subplot per episode and some continuous lines. Later, as with Discovery, the main plot also became more and more important, but subplots were still completed in one or a few episodes.

It seems as if that structure and clarity have completely disappeared, unfortunately the main plot is just not strong enough to carry so many episodes. The result is that the pleasant, somewhat slow pace is spiced up with some sought-after action.

Episode 5 also contains a bloody and gruesome scene in which a person and eye are demolished. That kind of brutal and gory violence really doesn't fit into what was always a family series, Gene Roddenberry had generated for it. His hopeful "brave new world" has been replaced here by a dystopian one.

Apparently there is no hope left for humanity and the universe.
