The Strain plot

The series tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the chief of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team must investigate the mysterious outbreak of a virus that appears to cause vampirism. As the virus spreads, Eph and his team must fight a war that will determine the fate of humanity.

Verrassend leuke horror serie. Allereerst valt op hoe mooi alles gefilmd is. Ziet er allemaal heel gelikt uit. Tevens een behoorlijk aardige soundtrack. The Strain neemt zichzelf niet heel erg serieus en bevat behoorlijk wat humor. Het meeste is afkomstig van Gus, een stereotype Mexicaanse 'thug' die altijd boos en agressief is en voor de ene na de andere hilarische scene zorgt. Ook de andere characters stellen niet teleur: een Russische macho-ongediertebestrijder, een oude Joodse 'Strigoi-hunter' en een zelfingenomen rockster die enkel in de business is voor 'the pussy'. Qua horror valt er ook wel aardig wat te genieten. Hier en daar wat leuke gore, en het design van 'The Master' is simpelweg geniaal. The Strain is geen serie die je volledig wegblaast, maar is wel erg vermakelijk om te volgen, mede door de geslaagde mix van humor en horror.

Surprisingly fun horror series.

The first thing that strikes you is how beautifully everything is filmed. It all looks very nice. Also a pretty nice soundtrack. The Strain doesn't take itself very seriously and contains quite a bit of humor. Most of it comes from Gus, a stereotypical Mexican 'thug' who is always angry and aggressive, creating one hilarious scene after another. The other characters don't disappoint either: a Russian macho pest fighter, an old Jewish 'Strigoi-hunter' and a self-righteous rock star who is only in business for 'the pussy'.

In terms of horror, there is also quite a bit to enjoy. Some nice gore here and there, and the design of 'The Master' is simply brilliant.

The Strain is not a series that will blow you away completely, but it is very entertaining to follow, partly due to the successful mix of humor and horror.

Goede sfeer en vooral goede sfx en make up...voor mij niet geheel onbelangrijk in een horrorserie. Zeker kijken jongens en meiden.

Good atmosphere and especially good sfx and make up ... for me not unimportant in a horror series.

Definitely watch guys and gals.

Het begon goed met dat vliegtuig, maar daarna vond ik het wat minder worden. Redelijke spannende horror serie, al vind ik het nergens echt eng of mega spannend. Maar het is vermakelijk en leuk voor de horror fans.

It started well with that plane, but after that I thought it got a bit less. Fairly exciting horror series, although I don't find it really scary or mega exciting.
But it is entertaining and fun for the horror fans.
