A step down from the fantastic seasons 2 and 3. Everything around The Initiative is especially clunky. Hush is still one of the best episodes of the series.

I mostly agree with the previous posts. In contrast to the second and third season, the season is very disappointing. I really didn't like the main plot at all. It's boring, long-winded and largely predictable. Still, I rate this season quite high and that has to do with everything that goes on outside the main plot. In that respect, this season still manages to surprise. The best episode by far is Hush and indeed I think that's the best episode of the series so far. I also love the return of Spike, this time as a regular character. Still one of my favorite characters and so much better than Angel.

I doubted my rating for a while, 3.5 or 4*, but I finally think it's slightly better than the first season and Hush in particular convinced me to give 4*.

Perhaps the best season yet...

At least the most fun. Now that Angel is definitively relegated to the background, the high soap content also disappears. Still a relief after a season in which the series started to take itself very seriously. Buffy Is Buffy Again: A series about bumbling teens who have a rough fight with plasticine monsters. Of course, the series also has some serious (and yes, sometimes corny) moments, but the balance between drama and humor is again right.

We are introduced to some new and less new characters in this season. This is how Buffy gets a new lover: Riley, a kind of 'Angel light'. Not exactly the most exciting addition, but rather a sop for female viewers. No, I thought the mysterious Tara was a more interesting newcomer. The icing on the cake is of course Spike, who this time makes his appearance as an “impotent” vampire.

Furthermore, there is of course no shortage of kitsch. The sets seem to come straight out of a Meat Loaf music video. 'The Initiative' has something of a false parody of The X Files. Of course it's all part of it, but it does keep the series from the absolute top.

Still a small 4*
