Vechtershart plot

You literally fight back to the top. The drama series Fighting Heart draws you into the blood-fanatic and close-knit world of martial arts. In the eight-part drama series of BNN, Waldemar Torenstra plays the role of Nick Roest. After four years in prison, the former K1 champion is released. There is little left of his old life after that period in prison. Time for Nick to literally fight back.

Een stuk minder dan het eerste seizoen. Vooral omdat de probleemrelatie tussen Nick Roest en zijn vader is 'opgelost' en de serie daarom op zoek gaat naar andere invalshoeken. Zo is er een subplot met een groepje Marokkaanse probleemvrienden dat door Rudy (Kenneth Herdigein) bij de Dojo wordt gehouden. Selma (Imanuelle Grives) neemt baantjes aan waar ze gebruik kan maken van haar vechtkwaliteiten. David (Benja Bruijning) en Sjoerd Keyser (Peter Paul Muller) komen in de problemen met Rino Vink (Henk Poort). En dan is er ook nog Briek (Bill Barberis) die achter de schermen een drugssyndicaat opzet terwijl hij zich onvervangbaar maakt voor Nick's MMA-aspiraties. Op zich komen de losse eindjes netjes bij elkaar, maar een sportserie valt of staat met hoe de sport en 'het leven' door elkaar heen lopen. In dit seizoen lijkt het kickboksen of MMA bijna bijzaak, waardoor juist het sport-element minder opwindend is. En met het lachwekkend slechte open einde gaat het nergens heen.

A lot less than the first season. Especially because the problem relationship between Nick Roest and his father has been 'solved' and the series is therefore looking for other angles. There is a subplot
with a group of Moroccan troubled friends kept at the Dojo by Rudy (Kenneth Herdigein). Selma (Imanuelle Grives) takes jobs where she can use her fighting skills. David (Benja Bruijning) and Sjoerd Keyser (Peter Paul Muller) get into trouble with Rino Vink (Henk Poort). And then there's Briek (Bill Barberis) who sets up a behind-the-scenes drug syndicate while making himself irreplaceable for Nick's MMA aspirations. In itself, the loose ends come together neatly, but a sports series stands or falls with how sport and 'life' intertwine. In this season, kickboxing or MMA seems almost an afterthought, making the sport element less exciting. And with the laughably bad open ending, it's not going anywhere.
