Vechtershart plot

You literally fight back to the top. The drama series Fighting Heart draws you into the blood-fanatic and close-knit world of martial arts. In the eight-part drama series of BNN, Waldemar Torenstra plays the role of Nick Roest. After four years in prison, the former K1 champion is released. There is little left of his old life after that period in prison. Time for Nick to literally fight back.

From start to finish, a highly satisfying crime/sports series about testosterone-driven men with small hearts. About forgiveness and rising again after defeat, about fathers and sons who continue to spar with each other to gain recognition and share love. A small downside is that the series invents something too forced and implausible plot lines to keep it exciting. For example, I would have liked the crime approach a little more in the background compared to the revolt of a retired boxer. Although the crime itself is also highly entertaining. In any case, I look forward to what they plan to do with the second season, especially now that the proportions at the Roest gym have shifted quite a bit.

I really enjoyed this series. The combination of crime, drama and kick-boxing has worked out well. The drama part was very engaging and as a viewer I really felt for Nick. I think that the fights and the training sessions are also well portrayed. Coverage and things like that have also been thought of. That pleases the makers. The crime story also really appealed to me. It was therefore nice to see Henk Poort in a night drive-like gangster role again. He can really portray such a criminal perfectly. Martijn Fischer as a shady gym owner was also on track. In interviews, Waldemar Torenstra and Imanuelle Grives have stated several times that they have trained very hard for these roles. They therefore appear very credible as top athletes with their toned bodies. Imanuelle is a beautiful woman who also has a lot of talent. The direction was also well taken care of and the stirring sound fragments also charmed me. The acting was pretty good throughout the season. However, there were moments when it could have been better. Fortunately, there will be a 2nd season and I hope it will get a little better so that I can give 4 stars next time.
