The British psychological drama Too Close comes from our national treasure trove, the NPO. Let's be careful with this. A bit against the flow of commercial streaming services, the NPO as a small player continues to look for docu, film and series gems. The quality is almost always very good. That also applies to Too Close. I call it drama, but perhaps tragedy is a better description.
Connie Mortensen (Denise Gough, ao What Remains) drives her car into the water with two children in the back seat. Has Connie lost her way? Was it an unfortunate coincidence? Was she doing this on purpose, and is she the yummy mummy monster as the tabloids lead you to believe? Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Emma Robertson, played by Emily Watson (Chernobyl, Apple Tree Yard) is going to investigate.
The screenplay is written by Clara Salaman. Under the pseudonym Natalie Daniels, she herself is the author of the book of the same name. And you feel that. Work has been done here with love, with sparkling acting. Also nice to see Thalissa Teixeira (Trigonometry) in an important supporting role. Usually it's the other way around, but this three-part drama could have used a fourth. Too Close will not go down in the books as a fast drama, but a little more space to let the dramatic developments sink in, or to work out some storylines better, would have been welcome. It's a minor critique of an excellent drama in every way.

Surprise of the week... month were these 3 episodes. Sublimely told, in which more and more is being revealed about backgrounds. Superbly acted. Emily Watson is always magnificent in her credibility. Denise Gough, however, was the revelation, but she could also let loose in the story. Recommended.

Good mini-series about a forensic psychiatrist who has to determine the state of mind of a woman who has had an incident. It starts a bit like a thriller with two interesting main characters who slowly become less interesting (despite the good acting). A simple but effective setup of conversations alternating with flashbacks. Almost 4.0 stars.
