The Sopranos plot

Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) is the head of a mob family in New Jersey. Throughout the series, Tony struggles to deal with the pressures of providing for both families, both in crime and at home, all the while revealing details of his personal life to his therapist Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) and attempting to keep his wife Carmela (Edie Falco) happy.

Ik ben één van de mensen die het einde niet echt kan smaken, maar los daarvan, wat een verhaallijnen, wat een personages, wat een hoofdpersonage, James Gandolfini (RIP) geeft één van de allersterkste acteerprestaties die ik ooit gezien heb. Zeer sterk.

I'm one of those people who don't really like the ending, but apart from that, what a storyline, what a characters, what a main character, James Gandolfini (RIP) gives one of the strongest acting performances I've ever seen. Very strong.

In The Sopranos volgen de lotgevallen van de hooggeplaatste maffioso uit New Jersey Tony Soprano(James Gandolfini). Tony bezoekt een 'Shrink' Dokter Melfi(Lorraine Bracco) omdat hij last heeft paniekaanvallen. Met hulp van de sessies bij Dokter Melfi krijgen wij een beter in het criminele brein van Tony Soprano maar ook van zijn familie en zijn 'Family'. Met name de hypocrisie en dubbele standaards die zij hanteren ten opzichte van het maffialeven en ordinary crime. Tegelijk merk je ook dat het 'wereldje' waar Tony in bivakkeert aan elkaar hangt van list en bedrog en roddel en achterklap waardoor iedereen constant op zijn hoede moet zijn om niet gewhacked te worden, zelfs Tony zelf. Zijn status als boss in New Jersey lijkt misschien heel wat voor ons buitenstaanders maar in eigen kring valt dat wel mee want New Jersey is ongeveer net zo glamoureus als Diemen-Zuid. Het is niet voor niets dat zijn conculega's uit New York spottend zeggen dat zijn 'Family' niet meer dan een omhooggevallen crew is. Wie de serie van begin tot eind volgt ziet steeds meer de verdorven kant van Tony Soprano naar bovenkomen, alsof je naar een ongeluk kijkt, maar desondanks blijf je ook sympathie voor hem houden. De serie heeft een topcast met buiten Gandolfini en Bracco namen als Steve van Zandt (bandmate van Bruce Springsteen), Tony Sirico(Goodfellas), Michael Imperioli( Goodfellas) en Domenic Chianese(Johnny Ola uit Godfather II)in vaste bijrollen en gastrollen van bekende (Maffia)acteurs als Frank Vincent(de Grijze Dakduif bekend uit o.a. Goodfellas en Casino), David Proval, (Mean Streets) Steve Buscemi (Mr Pink) en Joe Pantoliano(The Goonies en Memento). The Sopranos is de beste serie over de maffia en tevens ook de grootste anti-reclame voor die lifestyle.

The Sopranos follows the fortunes of high-ranking New Jersey mobster Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini). Tony visits a 'Shrink' Doctor Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) because he suffers from panic attacks. With the help of the sessions with Doctor Melfi, we get a better understanding of Tony Soprano's criminal brain, but also of his family and his 'Family'. In particular the hypocrisy and double standards they use with regard to mafia life and ordinary crime. At the same time, you also notice that the 'world' in which Tony lives is made up of trickery and deceit and gossip and backbiting, so that everyone has to be constantly on the lookout not to get whacked, even Tony himself. His status as a boss in New Jersey may seem like a lot to us outsiders, but in his own circle it is not that bad because New Jersey is about as glamorous as Diemen-Zuid. It's not for nothing that his colleagues from New York mockingly say that his 'Family' is nothing more than a fallen crew. Whoever follows the series from start to finish sees more and more the depraved side of Tony Soprano emerge, as if you are watching an accident, but you nevertheless also remain sympathetic to him. The series has a top cast with Gandolfini and Bracco names such as Steve van Zandt (Bruce Springsteen's bandmate), Tony Sirico (Goodfellas), Michael Imperioli (Goodfellas) and Domenic Chianese (Johnny Ola from Godfather II) in regular supporting roles and guest roles by well-known names. (Mafia) actors such as Frank Vincent (the Gray Roof pigeon known from Goodfellas and Casino), David Proval, (Mean Streets) Steve Buscemi (Mr Pink) and Joe Pantoliano (The Goonies and Memento).
