ep. Missed 3 and 4, but 4 and 5 were very similar to 1 and 2, so I'm assuming I didn't miss much.

According to the announcement, going back to old detective work à la Raymond Chandler with a modern sauce and that's right. The red and blue of the poster is regularly reflected in the lighting and is reminiscent of work by Nicolas Refn, for example, and positive attention has been paid to the cinematography in any case. The soundtrack is also quite modern and doable.

Stella Blómkvist is a beautiful, lonely warrior (although she does get the necessary help here and there) in an Iceland that seems to consist only of corrupt politicians and cops who bring in a few evil Chinese for investment at the cost of the safety of some residents. She likes sex, smoking, drinking and pissing people off. Immediately in the 1st scene we see how a man has to further satisfy her while she continues to negotiate on the phone about whether or not to take a case (and there are a few more scenes that easily earn the designation soft porn - [i ]spicy![/i]). It all seems a bit forced hip - sometimes it works, but often it doesn't.

The matters themselves are often far-fetched, even if they are based on reality, but then I think that they have been tinkered with and that a lot of (positive for Stella) coincidence has been added. That it is sometimes quite violent, I did not find a problem. The voice-over (by Stella herself, completely in the style of the old film noirs) hangs against the annoying.

Small 2.5*.

Stella Blomkvist is based on the books of the same name. A stubborn lawyer who tries to solve murder cases. Stella only likes rules when she can break them.

Stella is not a detective (although she behaves like one) but a lawyer. Two episodes are spent per case that Stella deals with, but a common thread runs through the series that connects the six episodes. It gives Stella Blómkvist a nice brisk pace.

Stella, excellently played by Heida Reed, comes across as a tough lady, enjoying her whiskey. It brings out the tough and raw Icelandic feeling. Smart and ruthless, Stella has a dark past and loves sex, whiskey and cigarette and does things her own way. As said Stella loves sex and that is often reflected in the series, but in a way that is not disturbing. It's all within limits.

Nice series, at least this season 1. In addition to the criminal nature of the events, also various humorous moments. Reed is doing great and on top of that I've seen uglier lawyers/detectives. Not spectacular in terms of plot, but the whole is of such a length and level that it remains fascinating from beginning to end, even occasionally exciting. Her voice-over is going to interfere at some point. Regardless, I'm definitely going to watch season 2.
