In Yorkshire, Tom Parfitt leaves for a rest home. His Indian neighbor has not set foot in his house in all the time she has lived there, nor was there much contact with him. Tom Parfitt sets up a scene where he allegedly fell down the stairs so that he can get a shelter in the retirement home. The social worker Alison Denning comes to pick him up at home and is somewhat surprised that his suitcase was already ready. It raises her suspicions for the first time that something isn't right about his story. Before leaving the house, she notices a picture frame with a little boy. It arouses her interest so much that she takes the photo frame with her, but it will later become apparent that this will have major consequences.
