'Rectify' is a special series in how the crime mystery is actually an afterthought in this complex tale of recovery and healing. Daniel Holden (Aden Young) remains the fascinating centerpiece as the former death row inmate, who in this season undergoes a transformation from a searching loner to someone who starts to feel responsible for his environment. But above all, this is the season of Tawney Talbot (Adelaide Clemens) and Ted Talbot Jr. (Clayne Crawford). The painful realization as Ted begins to see his own role in how Tawney feels oppressed in their marriage relationship, while the two damaged souls still care deeply about each other and simply want to give the past a place. Crawford, in particular, puts on a strong performance here as the bottle-necked mourner who gains a sense of empathy for his female other half. In an era of #metoo, 'Rectify' is a beacon of nuance and contemplation about the ability to explore personal boundaries and new ways to break through dysfunctional relationships with each other (and definitely not through each other!).
