Pieces of Her plot
When a Saturday afternoon ride with her mother to the mall suddenly turns into violence, a young woman's image of her mother changes forever. When various figures from her mother's past resurface, she is forced to flee. Thriller drama directed by Minkie Spiro, previously responsible for a few episodes of The Plot Against America and Dead To Me. Pieces Of Her is based on the book by Karen Slaughter and stars none other than Toni Collette (Unbelievable, Wanderlust). Is this a dream team? Pieces Of Her starts off fantastically with an episode that could have come straight out of The Sinner. Unfortunately, the 8-part series drops far after that. The acting is below average here and there (Bella Heathcote) and even Collette acts mannerly and forced.
We see a road trip, vast forests and so many flashbacks that you can no longer see the trees through them. The uninteresting story of a family secret doesn't help keep up the suspense either, any more than the Netflix car wash that Pieces Of Her went through. What remains is a messy, slow and smooth production that, despite the talented dream team, just doesn't want to ignite.
