To be honest, I thought it was really good that this series ended after 3 seasons (was it really the money pot that was empty?).

The story was done, the characters were well developed and the climax had been reached! What an achievement ! More Penny Dreadful stories would have been, imho, stretching and milking. Look at a Broadchurch, Orange is the New Black, Under the Dome, Modern Family.. I dropped out for the 'Too Much, Too Long' reasons.

When I talk to other people about Penny Dreadful I always say, "Great series!". With the above mentioned I say the same, only a "But...." comes after.

Beautiful series! As far as I'm concerned, the best horror series of recent years (although horror doesn't always predominate). Very atmospheric and balanced (drama, love, death). Nicely done how they have incorporated various icons from the past ( such as An American Werewolf in London) in a series with other appealing characters, and have given their own twist to the well-known stories of those figures .

I like S2 and S3 even better (4*); darker and with a pleasant change of location. The only drawback I think is that dialogues are sometimes presented too poetically (or rather: too long), and that the ending of S3 disappoints cq. is handled quickly.

I also enjoyed Penny Dreadful, too bad it's relatively not widely known. At least, is my impression. And yes Eva Green, what a beautiful, charismatic woman.

A truly brilliant horror series with a top cast that includes Eva Green, Timothy Dalton and Wes Studi and supplemented with good supporting roles from Brian Cox and Gargamellook a like Alun Armstrong. It takes place in Victorian times, which of course already provides a mysterious setting and through which the characters walk in beautiful clothes. It mainly takes place in London, but also includes Paris and America from that time. Many well-known figures from famous horror classics pass by, such as vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Dr Jekkyl and Mr Hyde, which is a bit reminiscent of League of extraordinary gentlemen, but where that film was not successful, I think it works here. I'm not a horror fan but this is much more than just horror. The main line is of course about a battle against the dark forces, but in the background also the tragic story of Frankenstein's monster plays and that gives this horror series an extra dimension.
