Luther plot

For Inspector John Luther, solving crimes is not work. It's a calling. Luther is a brilliant detective, who keeps his own laws and rules and regularly amazes his colleagues with his keen insight. With full dedication he takes on the psychological duel with psychopaths, murderers... and the demons that dwell within himself. For Luther has a troubled mind. Always nice to see Idris Elba back as the troubled title character, but this fifth series is very busy and messy. I would have enjoyed myself with less plot lines. Things jump from one piece to the next, so you never get into the series well. Too bad, because there are many good moments and there is little wrong with the individual plot lines. It is simply too much, in too short a time. Six episodes instead of four would certainly have been appropriate here.

It's a shame this last season, of course it's still nice to look away, but there's no more tension in it. The imbalance of the older episodes remains, as do all the blemishes and weird twists every now and then. For example Alice who enters the mafia complex as a hooker and kills Cornelius' son without anyone even asking her identity or getting suspicious when she leaves, erm what...

Anyway, I think the whole subplot of Cornelius is boring and adds little to the series and that way too much time is spent on it. They should have just stopped at the point where the diamonds were refunded. That after that it became a vendetta between Cornelius and Luther without and Luther always tries to save his friends but Cornelius keeps letting go, only to have to save his friends again., a bit of a shame. I think they don't dare to make hard choices because they had to let the storylines continue until the end, but that could have been solved a bit more creatively. Not really much tension either, except for the death of Bennie.

As for the murders, nice but because the killer returns in 4 episodes this time, I think more time could have been spent on the background of the killer. We do get to know something about his wife, but because she is an icy bitch who also doesn't want to give away too much information.....

The ending was also a shame, as if the important characters had to die. Would have been much nicer if Alice still fled with Luther, to the Bahamas or something, nice and romantic
