Lovecraft Country (2020)

Before I started the series, I narrowly knew that it has little to do with Lovecraft's stories. It's more like a BLM story in Lovecraftian guise. The first two episodes took a while. It seemed a bit chaotic to me, as if the story didn't know where it was going. In the meantime I got various associations with every episode such as Indiana Jones, Supernatural, Jules Verne. I wonder if that was done on purpose for the series or if they took this out of the book.

From episode 7 I finally started to like it pretty strong. There are also scenes in the series that I find quite impressive, such as the "I put a spell on you" scene (and the dancing horror chicks are just awesome). The series 'grows on me'.

I give the first half of the series a 3 and the second half a 4. It got off to a strange start, but the last few episodes make up for it for me. Going to start on Ruff's book soon.

Very, very hit and miss, with a maddening mix of dull drama and gory horror. Plot and characters aren't really engaging and it has little to nothing to do with HP Lovecraft's work. The exaggerated portrayal of racism is also quickly opposed and, above all, irritating. Fortunately, there are also positives, such as the very successful make-up effects and a good number of creepy moments, but it is too little to make you look forward to a possible second season. I'm actually done with it.
