Kabul, August 14, 2021. The Taliban stand at the city's gates, and France is preparing to evacuate its embassy. But the sudden fall of Kabul the following day throws all plans into disarray. French, Italian, German, and American diplomats and the police must improvise to evacuate hundreds of Afghans and refugees to the airport. As chaos grips the city, the Afghans will soon have only two choices: kneel or flee.

Rauw, heftig, realistisch is het eerste wat bij me opkomt bij het zien van deze serie. Waar de bezetting van Kabul in 2021 in de nederlandse media een beetje de ver van mijn bed was, geeft deze serie in alle facetten weer waar de daarbij betrokken partijen mee te maken kregen. De woede, de machteloosheid, de wanhoop en het verdriet spatten van het scherm. En ondanks het kennen van de uiteindelijke afloop van deze tragedie hield de serie de spanning goed vast.

Raw, intense, and realistic are the first things that come to mind when watching this series. While the occupation of Kabul in 2021 felt a bit distant in the Dutch media, this series portrays in every facet what the parties involved had to deal with.

The anger, the powerlessness, the despair, and the grief burst from the screen. And despite knowing the ultimate outcome of this tragedy, the series maintained the tension well.
