Kabul, August 14, 2021. The Taliban stand at the city's gates, and France is preparing to evacuate its embassy. But the sudden fall of Kabul the following day throws all plans into disarray. French, Italian, German, and American diplomats and the police must improvise to evacuate hundreds of Afghans and refugees to the airport. As chaos grips the city, the Afghans will soon have only two choices: kneel or flee.
