Heartbreak High plot
At a typical Sydney suburban school, 16- to 18-year-old children struggle with teen blues, love stories, teachers, violence, drugs and race issues. The series is a spin-off of the 1993 Australian film The Heartbreak Kid.

Heartbreak High was the best high school series in the 90s and it still is. Compared to the American series such as Saved By The Bell and Beverly Hills 90210 where morale was high and the totally anarchic Fort Alpha, Heartbreak High walked the middle ground and was therefore the most realistic. Problems such as bullying, discrimination, teenage pregnancies, suicide attempts, psychosis etc were discussed. Not everything had a happy ending and that was what made it so good because that's how it is in real life. The storylines were recognizable and so were the characters. The cast has changed a lot over the years, but the strength of the series remained intact until the last episode. Today's youth have to make do with Brugklas and Spangas, but you can't even call them both a weak copy of Heartbreak High.
