Divorce plot

The series is about three different men between 35 and 45 who are in the middle of a divorce. They decide to temporarily live together. They share joys and sorrows and a deep friendship develops. The story revolves around everything that a divorce entails: the intense emotions, the fights, the mourning, the doubts, the children, finances, rediscovering yourself, starting over, dealing with your ex and dating at the age of 40. The series is also about a typical male friendship. Men who only need half a word to understand each other, who give each other space to wallow and who give their backs when they are vulnerable. But also men who, if necessary, tell each other the truth.

Divorce season 1

Divorce is a series that I had quite a few preconceptions about. TV commercials made me suspect a series with zero content and mostly a lot of whining and yelling. Didn't see it of my own accord and after a few episodes it became clear to me that I was a bit too quick with my judgement.

The male threesome are well attuned to each other and there is certainly chemistry. The idea of the series is somewhat reminiscent of a number of students living together. Mainly newcomer Dirk Zeelenberg, who, if I have understood correctly, has taught himself acting, can be fun a few times. I was already aware of the abilities of Jeroen Spitzenberger and Waldemar Torenstra and they perform well in their roles. The three women are also good, but it is noticeable that the role of Chantal Janzen remains a bit flat. This is in stark contrast to Katja Herbers' character.

The series is not of an exceptionally high level, but it is extremely amusing. The three men experience enough, so it never gets boring. It does have some of the drama I feared, but this is well balanced with the dose of humor that is present. The script is well thought out in that regard. What also stands out is the nice soundtrack of the series: U2, Duran Duran, Bryan Adams and that intro to Madness is also charming. I definitely enjoyed this one, but I thought season 2 was just that little bit better.
